Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System Review

If you’re looking for a stroller to adapt with your growing family, Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular could be the ideal stroller for you. Don’t feel as though you need to spend a lot of money on a double stroller when you don’t (yet!) have a second child to sit in the second seat. Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular is high-quality, good value for money, and expandable for more than one child.

Expandable strollers are a very smart investment for parents who are looking to have more than one child quite close together in age. There are many expandable strollers on the market from well-known brands such as UPPAbaby, Thule, and Baby Jogger, but these are all rather expensive.

If you’re planning to grow your family quickly, the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of money on one of these high-end strollers. That is why the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System is just as good as the other expandable strollers in the market, and it’s much cheaper too!

There’s no use in buying the cheap option if it’s not going to offer you all of the features you need, which is why we’ve listed the most noteworthy ones below. We’ve also listed the pros and cons so that you get a feel for the whole stroller. We wouldn’t be doing our job if we just showed you the good!

Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular Features

The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular stroller grows alongside your family, making it great value for money. You can choose one of the impressive 22 seating options that it offers. Included within the travel system set is five high-quality products, which are:

  • The stroller frame.

  • One toddler seat.

  • One SafeMax Infant Car Seat and base.

  • Parent cup holder.

  • Built-in adapters to switch between the seats.

The attractive price point is another added bonus. You can use this stroller for one or two children, simply by detaching or reattaching one of the seats. This is an ideal option for parents who want to grow their families quickly.

You can use this stroller for two newborns or two toddlers, but you’ll have to purchase either a sibling seat or another SafeMax Infant Car Seat. Although this requires an extra purchase, this stroller is still half the price of Baby Jogger City, Nuna Demi Grow, Select LUX, or UPPAbaby VISTA.

Seating Options

The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular travel system is built in such a way that allows you to use two infant car seats, two toddler seats, or one of each seat with it. Or, you could use only one seat altogether if baby number two has not graced your family yet.

You do not need to purchase any additional adapters to attach the second seat, it all comes with the travel system. Below we’ll look at the seating options you can choose from.

Included Toddler Seat

This stroller comes with a toddler seat that has a maximum capacity of 55 pounds. You can recline it to three different positions, that can be used whether the seat is facing you or turned outwards. You’ll be able to recline the seat with only one hand, a helpful feature for parents with often full hands. Unfortunately, the seat does not lie completely flat.

The footrest is also adjustable and can be clicked into five different positions so that you can find the right adjustments to keep your baby as comfortable as possible. The included bumper bar is also detachable if you don’t find it useful.

Lying this seat as far back as it will go will allow you to lift the footrest and convert the seat into infant mode. Newborns will not be as comfortable as if they were in a bassinet due to the angle of their spine, but it can still be used for babies well under one year of age.

This seat is very padded and comfortable, and it’s quite deep to offer your child surrounding protection. The 5-point harness offers great safety and the two shoulder straps have protectors over them to prevent chafing. We’d like to see another protector around the crotch strap as well, but this stroller does not come with one.

The canopy is three panels and offers decent protection from the sun. It won’t reach anywhere near the bumper bar like some other models, but it will still keep your baby safe from the elements. The mesh peek-a-boo window offers air circulation and features no noisy clasps that threaten to wake your sleeping baby up.

If you’re using the stroller for only one baby, you can pull the seat closer to you using the built-in adapters. The sibling seat is exactly the same as the included toddler seat with all the same features and maximum capacity.

SafeMax Infant Car Seat

This car seat is suitable for infants as young as newborns and passed every safety test with flying colors. The car seat base has an anti-rebound bar which will protect your baby, should there be any impact from the front of the car. This seat can be used for babies from 4 pounds up to 35.

It is also very easy to install in the car, with features like a recline indicator, multi-position base, and a belt lock-off system. You can actually also book an appointment with one of Evenflo’s certified safety specialists who will talk you through the installation process.

The seat comes with a head pillow that can be removed, depending on what’s most comfortable for your baby. The canopy is generous and the handle is comfortable enough to carry without an aching arm. Moreover, the seat only weighs 7.6 pounds which is incredibly light compared to other competitor infant car seats.

The SafeMax Infant Car Seat attaches easily to the stroller frame in seconds and does not require any additional adapters. If you’re only using one seat on the frame, you can slide this car seat closer to you. The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular comes with one of the SafeMax Infant Car Seats, but you can buy an additional one as well.

Expanding to a Double Stroller

All the adapters you need for expanding this stroller are already built-in so it could not be easier to add another seat. The top adapters can be slid down into the middle position when only using one seat, and the bottom adapters hide in the storage basket when they’re not needed.

When using two seats, the car seat can be placed in the top position while the toddler seat sits at the bottom position. This allows your younger child to be closer to you as they often require more attention while you’re out. You actually cannot do this on every expandable stroller, so this is a big plus for the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular.

Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular comes with a parking brake that can be easily accessed with your foot. It’s rather large so you won’t have to fumble around trying to find it for a long time, and you can easily activate and deactivate it while weaning any footwear, even open-toed shoes.

Wheels and Suspension

The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular is best used for city living and urban terrain. The wheels are quite small and are made of a soft rubber that won’t fair well on rough surfaces such as gravel or sand. This is actually one of the main reasons why this stroller is much less expensive than the likes of the VISTA or City Select strollers.

These wheels are still an improvement that Evenflo’s old tires that feature on the Pivot Xpand Modular single stroller, so rest assured that they work better than these wheels. The new wheels offer more grip and traction for smoother, more stable rides.

Suspension is present on the rear wheels to ensure your child enjoys their comfortable and smooth ride. The front tires are smaller and swivel so that you can maneuver the stroller without hassle in tight spaces, such as shops.

Feel free to use this stroller on sidewalks and tightly packed park pathways, but anything more uneven than this will cause your stroller to struggle and bounce along the way. If you need something more rugged than this, we’d suggest looking for an all-terrain stroller. The tires on Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular are by no means bad, but they don’t suit everyone’s lifestyle.

Storage Basket

A surprising yet welcomed feature of this stroller is the generously sized storage basket. It actually measured in at two-foot long. We’ve certainly never heard of a storage basket being so large, so you’ll definitely be able to fit your diaper bag plus even more underneath the seat. Rest assured that all your necessities will be able to fit in this storage basket, and maybe even some unessential items too!

The handlebar can be rotated into three different positions, making this comfortable enough for both tall and short parents to push. Having said that, this is not the most adjustable handlebar out there, and therefore may not be the best for very tall or very short parents.

Size, Weight, and Folding Mechanism

This travel system weighs 28.6 pounds with the toddler seat, which is pretty standard for most expandable strollers on the market. Adding one infant car seat will take the total weight up to 36 pounds.

The stroller is 26.5 inches wide which means it’s small enough to maneuver easily and without hassle. Adding two seats will of course make this stroller bigger and harder to steer, but it is still considered one of the more compact double strollers out there.

When folded, this stroller measures in at 26.5 x 18.5 x 31.5 inches, which is similar to other models on the market and is easily stored away or tucking into the trunk of your car. Folding the stroller only takes a matter of seconds, so you won’t have to waste your time with tricky mechanisms.

  • You get both the SafeMax Infant Car Seat and a toddler seat with the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular frame
  • Features great safety features for your baby

  • The two seats allow you to use this stroller from birth to toddlerhood

  • You can use it for one child, or expand it for two infants

  • The additional sibling seat is exactly the same as the included toddler seat, with all the same benefits and features

  • You can adjust the footrest to five different positions

  • Generously sized storage basket

  • Great value for money

  • The infant car seat only weighs 7.6 pounds

  • The younger infant can be placed closer to you while the older toddler sits in the bottom position

  • You can switch the direction of the toddler seat

  • Rear wheels offer suspension

  • Stylish design

  • The stroller is not lightweight and may be difficult to pick up and transport
  • The wheels are not made for all-terrain types and therefore are only suitable for sidewalks and dense gravel pathways

Color Options

You can choose between two colors for the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular stroller. These are Percheron Gray and Stallion Black. Both of these colors, while simple, are very stylish and sleek, and don’t draw attention to your children. They also do not show stains as easily as lighter color options, which is a plus when your stroller is going to be around more than one young child every day.

You get one infant car seat and one toddler seat with this travel system, allowing you to use it for one older and one younger child. It comes with a parent cup holder and generous storage basket, but there are still a few additional accessories that you can purchase to customize it to your needs.

The sibling seat is exactly the same as the included toddler seat and does not require any additional adapters. This is great if you’re using the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular for twins or two older infants.

With this accessory, you’ll be able to fit infant car seats from other brands such as the Graco SnugRide 30, 35, and 40, the Chicco KeyFit 30, and the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio.

This is a lightweight car seat that offers excellent safety to your infant. The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular frame has enough space for two SafeMax car seats, and the adapters are already built into the frame.

A rider board can be attached to the back of this stroller for an older sibling to stand on while you’re out and about. This allows the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular to hold up to three children!
