One of Nuna’s flagship models of stroller, the MIXX, has had a lot of changes over the last couple of years and has swiftly become a favorite among parents. If you’re looking at this article we’re going to make one assumption about you. You’re wondering: ‘Is the Nuna MIXX worth the money?’
We’re going to answer this vital question by comparing and reviewing all three of the versions of the Nuna MIXX stroller: MIXX2 from 2018, MIXX 2019 and the MIXX NEXT 2020. Hopefully out review will help to demonstrate how the Nuna MIXX has evolved in the last 3 years and it will help you to make a decision about which version is going to be the best fit for you and your baby.
To start with though, here’s a little bit of information you need to know to start.
Let’s go over the history of how Nuna’s well known stroller has altered since it was first unleashed onto the market. The first edition of the Nuna MIXX stroller was introduced to the world at the ABC Kids Ecpo back in 2014. A couple of months later and this stroller made it’s big debut into the world. The stroller was a luxury, high end stroller that had a bunch of fancy features that not many other strollers had at that time.
We didn’t get around to testing out the original model and it’s not available anymore, so we won’t be covering it in this article.
However, we did try out the Nuna MIXX2. The brand has done a fantastic job of upgrading this stroller for the 2017/2018 edition and it’s much more user friendly.
The primary changes that were made were applied to the wheels, frame and fabrics. The stroller has a gorgeous makeover and looked even more luxurious than the first edition.
You may have already read a couple of reviews on our website already, in which case you will already know how much we are fond of multifunctional and versatile strollers, so it’s not surprising that we love this one so much either.
For the 2019 version, Nuna has once again updated their stroller and have changed its name (this may be a little confusing when you are comparing all of the models. In order to simplify the situation, we are simply going to refer to this version as the Nuna MIXX 2019.
For this round of updates, the stroller got an all new, all season seat, new fashions, and it’s even the first version that comes with a Ring Adapter for Nuna’s car seats included in the original set.
One thing that’s particularly interesting is that Nuna has worked on the Nuna MIXX NEXT for 2020. The suspension is going to be the biggest overhaul in this product, but it’s being released in Summer 2020. The folding mechanism has also been changed to make the stroller more compact.
So, now that we’ve given you the background information about the Nuna strollers, here’s where we get into the most important part. These are the features that it has, why it’s so special and if it’s really worth splurging on.
Nuna MIXX2, Nuna MIXX 2019, Nuna MIXX NEXT 2020 – Stroller Review
Here’s out review and comparison of the last 3 models of Nuna MIXX: Nuna MIXX2 2017/1018, Nuna MIXX 2019 and the Nuna MIXX NEXT 2020.
All You Need to Know about the Hottest Nuna Stroller in Town: Nuna MIXX2, Nuna MIXX 2019, NUNA MIXX NEXT 2020
Whatever model of the Nuna MIXX you opt for, you are going to get one tremendous full sized convertible stroller that is a worthy rival to its competitors on the market. This is an all in one everyday stroller with a stylish look that’s sure to make other parents seethe with envy.
It is important to note, however, that there are some pretty key differences between the models from the last 3 years that can have a pretty big impact on what you choose to purchase.
With the Nuna MIXX2 you are able to stroll with your baby and look stylish doing so. It’s incredible versatile and ideal for parents who prize flexibility. It provides a number of seating options, especially if you intend to buy the additional attachments. The basic set comes with a rear and front facing standard seat that is suitable for newborns. It also has two extra modes for newborn babies: a bassinet and travel system (with infant car seat) - though these are sold separately.
Every version of this stroller also comes with a standard seat that manufacturers recommend is used from birth up to 50 lbs.
It has a 5 position recline so that your baby is going to get the most possible comfort as they ride and nap. You can easily recline the seat with only one hand as there is a handle positioned on the back of the seat. This is also incredibly easy to operate. It also has an adjustable calf support and footrest.
With this stroller your baby is able to simply lie back in a flat position and comfortably rest their legs. In fact, the manufacturer says that when the seat is fully reclined it is totally newborn ready!
You are able to recline the seat completely down and then you can lift the calf rest all the way up, snapping it to both sides of the seat frame in order to make an enclosed space for your baby as they sleep. This is going to give your baby more privacy so their sleep is undisturbed.
As you can tell, the Nuna MIXX is able to be used from birth without you needing to have the extra bassinet that is sold separately. It should be noted though that if you would like to give your baby a more comfortable and secluded place for longer strolls and when they want to sleep on the move, then it’s worth buying the bassinet, which we will cover more about below.
The stroller is also a great choice for bigger and older children due to the adjustable calf rest which is ideal for nap time. It even has a step where taller children are able to rest their feet, but this is not adjustable and you can only use it when your child is facing out into the world.
One thing we love about the Nuna MIXX2, MIXX 2019 and MIXX NEXT 2020 is that they allow your baby to be able to face you or the world. It’s super easy to reverse the seat, and all you need to do is press two small buttons on both sides of the seat and lift is up accordingly.
It’s very handy to have a reversible seat. Your baby will have the option about whether they want to face you or the world!
Another thing we really like about this seat is the upright positon. When the seat is fully up, the child is able to sit straight and this is ideal for curious toddlers that just want to look at everything.
For all three of the models you can also attach a removable arm bar in order to keep your baby safe. This prevents your baby from falling out and it also gives your baby something to hold onto. This bar also looks very luxurious and is made out of a leather looking fabric.
So these are all of the features that are the same for the MIXX2, MIXX 2019 and MIXX NEXT 2020. So what are the differences between them?
The main difference is the material and padding.
The Nuna MIXX2 comes with a deep and cushy padding, so the seat is way more comfortable than it is on a lot of other strollers which can sometimes feel uncomfortable. The MIXX2 incorporates a cotton blend fabric (melange fabric) which feels plush but it’s also breathable.
You can easily remove and wash the seat fabric, which is vital because eventually the seat will get dirty and it’s useful to be able to clean it in a washing machine. It’s also easy to put it back on after it’s cleaned because it all just snaps into place.
In the 2019 version the brand made the fabric even more breathable. It has an entirely different seat which is called the ‘all season’ seat. The padding is made out of bamboo and this wicks away any moisture. It is also removable and will reveal a mesh seat back. As you may expect, everything is totally machine washable just in case your baby has an accident or when milk gets spilled.
When the weather is hot you can also remove the padding to allow the air to circulate through the backrest which is made of mesh to prevent your baby from sweating. Then, when it’s colder outside you can put the bamboo padding on to keep your baby nice and warm in the winter.
Of course, the seat is ideal for all seats as you can modify it depending on the weather conditions. It’s a shame that not all strollers have this feature but it’s certainly a luxury that not many strollers provide.
The new Nuna MIXX NEXT 2020 is also going to have the same all season seat as the MIXX 2019 does.
It is worth mentioning that this all season seat does make the Nuna MIXX 2019 cost more than the MIXX2. The passing from the older version is certainly pretty fantastic and comfortable but if you do have a more flexible budget and your winters are a bit too cold and summers a bit too hot then it’s worth getting the newer model.
If you have tried out the Nuna MIXX with any other stroller then you’ve probably recognised how high the seat is mounted onto the frame. The 2019 and 2020 versions are mounted even higher, and this is very helpful for taking your baby in and out of the stroller and you won’t have to bend right down. When your child gets older you are able to use the stroller instead of a restaurant chair as it is table height.
Another really great feature that the Nuna MIXX2 and the Nuna MIXX 2019 have is the harness - the older model has a normal harness and it could take some time to get used to using the restrain. Since the 2019 version, the Nuna MIXX has been upgraded to have a no rethread harness that is a lot easier to adjust - thankfully the 2020 version is going to have this same harness system.
It’s also possible to use the stroller with the MIXX series bassinet, which is able to connect to the MIXX2 and the MIXX 2019 strollers. This is going to give your baby the best possible position during their naps and your long strolls together. You can use it from birth up to 20 lbs or 27 inches, whichever one comes first. The carrycot weighs 11.2 lbs.
The bassinet has been approved for overnight sleep so it’s possible to use it instead of a crib - you’ll simply need a Nuna bassinet stand, which then closes down for much easier storage. When you aren’t using the bassinet it’s simple to just fold it down into a flat and compact package. This is a fantastic design that’s very useful for parents that don’t have a lot of space in their home.
The bassinet also comes with a canopy with integrated mesh windows, and these give more air flow to keep your baby cool. It also has a hidden storage pocket where you are able to put all of your essential items.
The bassinet comes equipped with a ‘Dream Drape.’ This is a cover that’s made to give your baby a very peaceful sleep completely undisturbed. A lot of parents like to put a towel, a nappy or a blanket over the canopy to help to protect your baby from the sun rays but this can be dangerous as it can block airflow. The Dream Drape ensures that you don’t need to worry about this, as it doesn’t block the air circulation but it still provides total shade for your baby.
The bassinet also comes with an apron that can be removed using release magnets. Similarly to the cover of the mattress, the apron is entirely machine washable.
At the moment it is only possible to buy the bassinet in one color - caviar. This costs around $150.
You should keep in mind that both the bassinet and the totally reclined seat are suitable for newborn use. So you don’t actually need the bassinet and it’s totally optional because of the versatility of the seat. Pretty neat, huh?
Infant Car Seat Compatibility - Nuna MIXX Travel System
Every stroller from the MIXX series(MIXX2, MIXX 2019 and MIXX NEXT 2020) is able to be turned into a travel system.
The Nuna MIXX 2 comes with an infant car seat adapter, and you are able to use this with Nuna PIPA series infant car seats, in addition to Maxi Cosi and Cybex infant car seats.
The newest version comes with a slightly different adapter that’s called ‘Ring Adapter,’ and this golds the infant car seat in place more securely. The 2020 edition will also have this Ring adapter. You should remember, however, that the Ring adapter is only able to accommodate the Nuna PIPA infant car seats, and it’s not going to work with Cybex or Maxi Cosi.
If you are looking to use your Nuna stroller along with any other car seat brands such as Cybex or Maxi Cosi then you should opt for the MIXX2 from 2017/2018. If you are intending to buy a Nuna infant car seat then you can opt for either the MIXX2 or the MIXX2019, or you could even opt for the 2020 MIXX NEXT.
A Couple of Words About Nuna PIPA Series Infant Car Seats
The Nuna PIPA is a fantastic infant car seat that is easy to install in a car in just a couple of seconds. It attaches quite easily onto the stroller too, and makes an audible click when it’s been done so you can be certain that you’ve positioned it in the correct spot.
One thing that’s really fantastic about the Nuna PIPA is that it’s really easy to install in the car whether you have a base or not - this is ideal if you travel or often use different cars.
So, what’s the most important component when it comes to an infant car seat? If you guessed safety, then you’re right! As far as Nuna are concerned, their products look amazing but they’re also made with your child’s safety as a top priority. The Nuna PIPA car seat has side impact protection, stability leg that will be able to absorb any impact if you get into a car accident and it will minimize the force to the baby. It also has a resilient shell shape and it keeps the baby in a nice and safe position, with an adjustable 5 point harness.
The interior of the seat is padded with a breathable and comfortable fabric, and it has a mesh window on the canopy that allows for extra airflow. It also has a mesh Dream Drape that is going to give lots of shade for your baby without stopping the air circulation.
In addition to the Pipa, there are two other Nuna infant car seats that are compatible with the MIXX strollers, which are the PIPA Lite LX and the PIPA Lite. These are somewhat different from the normal PIPA car seats. One of the key differences lies in their weight and fabric.
The Nuna PIPA weighs only 9.4 lbs, including the canopy and insert, while the PIPA Lite weighs 6.7 pounds. Finally, the PIPA Lite LX weighs 7.1 pounds.
The PIPA Lite also has jersey like fabric, whereas the PIPA Lite LX has merino wool TENCEL lyocell fiber blend fabric. One key difference is that the PIPA Lite doesn’t have a peek a boo window or a Dream Drape, but if you opt for the PIPA Lite LX. Of course, the PIPA Lite LX is certainly one of the most expensive models in the Nuna PIPA Series.
You should ensure that you remember you are able to buy the Nuna MIXX as a travel system. This will come with one of the PIPA car seats included or otherwise you can buy this separately.
One of the things we love about the MIXX is that it has an incredible and very large canopy that’s very breathable.
When you fully extend the canopy it will protect your baby from the sun very effectively. The fabric consists of a UPF 50+ fabric that is used to give extra protection.
In total the canopy has three panels. The one in the middle will open with a zipper and has two mesh windows, one positioned on either side. This gives more ventilation.
The canopy also has a mesh peek a boo window with a quiet magnet closure, so you don’t need to worry about noisy velcro waking up your baby when you want to check up on them.
Every stroller from the Nuna MIXX collection also has a sun visor that flips out and this helps to keep the sun out of your baby’s eyes.
There is a rather large difference between the canopy on the MIXX2 and the MIXX 2019. The first version has a larger peek a boo window, while the later edition has an extra mesh vent positioned just below the viewing window. When it’s warmer outside, you are able to untuck the cover to let your baby feel the breeze. The vent also lets you check up on your baby.
With the Nuna stroller you will get rather large tires made of rubber, and these are filled with foam in the back which helps to be able to handle almost any type of terrain. It also helps to minimize any impact you will get from bumps and shocks. The front wheels are somewhat smaller and made of plastic so they don’t handle significantly large bumps.
The stroller is suitable for a range of different terrains, such as poor sidewalks, cobblestone, gravel, grass and hard packed sand due to the foam filled and plastic wheels. It isn’t going to handle roots, trails or bark chips very well, however.
The plastic and rubber wheels mean that you don’t need to concern yourself with inflating or taking an air pump with you everywhere you go to fix deflated wheels.
All of the strollers also have the same wheel size. The rear wheels measure 11” while the front wheels are 7.5”.
The Nuna MIXX wheels roll very well and they look attractive too. These chrome black wheels with white parts, and with a dark matte frame make this stroller have a very fashionable design that will be the envy of parents everywhere.
Maneuverability and Suspension
You will get good maneuverability with both the Nuna MIXX2 and MIXX 2019, and you can easily push them with just one hand. The wheels roll smoothly so it’s mostly effort free to navigate and turn the stroller. The Nuna strollers also have a very tight turning radius and they are able to turn 360 degrees without any issues. This ease of operation is something that the stroller has a real advantage on in comparison to other full sized strollers.
One thing that’s particularly good about the MIXX stroller is that it’s possible to use it as a city stroller. You can use it for trips to the park or mall, for going to daycare or the playground and for trips to see the grandparents.
As the stroller has large foam rear wheel and progressive suspension technology that’s built into all of the wheels, you are able to stroll over any unbeaten terrain too. You will get a comfortable and smooth ride whether you opt for slightly rougher terrain or for flat terrain.
It is worth mentioning that Nuna is planning to upgrade the suspension so the Nuna MIXX NEXT 2020 is going to handle bumps and shocks much better than the previous editions. This new and improved suspension is going to be able to absorb any shocks so the ride will be extremely comfortable, regardless of the terrain - it could be snow, old pavement or a sandy road, and you’ll still have a smooth ride. This is one of the main important improvements that Nuna is planning on adding to the MIXX in 2020 and we are so excited to check it out!
Every model of the Nuna MIXX stroller comes with an action brake that will lock the rear wheels. The pedal is placed for your convenience in the middle of the rear axle, and it even has color indicators. It’s very easy to use and it’s intuitive, regardless of whether you stand behind it or beside it.
In order to lock the stroller you will need to step onto the red side, and then to release the brake you press onto the green part. You can do this easily in a lot of different types of shoes and you don’t need to be concerned about hurting your toes.
All of the 3 models of the MIXX by Nuna have adjustable, telescoping handlebars that have three height positions. It can extend from 38” to 42” from the ground, so parents with varying heights are definitely going to appreciate this feature.
The push bar also looks very attractive and has a luxury feel to it as a result of the hand sewn fabric, which actually looks a lot like a leather. While it’s not real leather it certainly feels very nice, and the fabric and stitches are high quality.
There is also a similar leather look cover on the arm bar.
One of the main noticeable differences between the MIXX2 and MIXX 2019 is that the first has black covers for the bumper bar and handlebar, while the later version has brown covers too.
The Nuna MIXX strollers have a fantastic storage basket positioned underneath the seat. It’s gigantic! It has a zippered pouch inside that you are able to put your small belongings in such as keys or a wallet, and they will all be secure.
It also has a divider so you are able to put your belongings into two different compartments. This can be especially helpful if you like to take many things with you and you would rather not spend a long time searching for them in a large basket. It’s also possible to use the basket as one big storage area, depending on your personal preference.
The basket really is pretty large, and it will allow you to carry a large diaper bag, a purse, some snacks and even a blanket for your baby - in fact, you could even carry some groceries in it! It’s also incredibly easy to acces both from the back and either side.
The basket is made out of a pretty stiff material that means that it doesn’t sag down. All of the models, MIXX2, MIXX 2019 and MIXX NEXT 2020 come with the same storage basket.
There is one additional difference that is important to mention between the MIXX2 and the MIXX 2019. MIXX2 comes with an extra storage pouch on the rear of the seat. This is pretty large and it can hold a phone, a wallet, wipes, tissues and even some snacks to eat on the go. It also has a silent magnetic closure so you don’t need to be concerned about waking your baby up when you are taking your stuff out.
One issue with the MIXX 2019 is that it doesn’t come with the useful storage pocket that was present in the previous models. The MIXX 2019 has a 2 layer seat and the outer one consists of mesh, which is why the pocket was removed.
Hopefully, Nuna will add a small pocket on the rear of the seat in the new version.
Folding and Weight
The Nuna MIXX2, MIXX 2019 and MIXX NEXT are normall full sized joggers, so while they weigh a bit more than lightweight travel strollers, they still weigh less than joggers.
The MIXX2 by Nuna weighs 26.8 lbs in total without the canopy and arm bar. The dimensions are 33.5” x 23.4” x 44.3”.
The newer model, the MIXX 2019, weighs 27 lbs (without the arm bar or winter seat) and it has the following dimensions: 37” x 23.5” x 44. The Nuna MIXX NEXT 2020 does not have any official information yet regarding its dimensions and weight, but they shouldn’t vary too much from the previous models.
There is very minimal difference between the MIXX2 and MIXX 2019 as far as weight is concerned. When you add on the accessories, both strollers are around 28-28.5 lbs. Honestly, it’s not super light to carry and it is slightly more bulky than other standard strollers. This is certainly the exchange you will make for the fantastic features that it does provide, like the wheels, the all season seat and the large basket.
Every model of the Nuna MIXX is very quick and simple to fold, whether the seat is front or rear facing. This is pretty handy and is definitely a big selling point, as you don’t need to change the position of the seat before you fold it down, as you would need to do in the UPPAbaby Vista, for example. It’s also possible to remove the seat first and then fold the frame separately.
With that being said, there are some differences between all of the MIXX strollers in fold dimensions.
When folded, the Nuna MIXX2 stroller is fairly flat, measuring 35.8 x 23.6 x 16. The Nuna MIXX 2019 is 34 x 23.5 x 18. We don’t yet have the precise dimensions of the MIXX NEXT 2020, but because it will have an upgraded folding mechanism it should theoretically be a couple of inches shorter.
It is worth mentioning that this is certainly not a small stroller and it’s definitely not as easy to store as some travel strollers. With that being said, it’s not awful. These are fairly standard dimensions for this kind of stroller. The UPPAbaby VISTA folded dimensions are quite similar to this.
There is one other great feature included in Nuna strollers - when you fold the MIXX you can pull it similarly to how you would pull a suitcase, by leaning on the rear wheels. It’s pretty handy and it means that you don’t have to carry the stroller the whole way, you just need to roll it. The stroller also folds down in such a way that the fabric doesn’t touch the ground so it doesn’t get dirty, which certainly saves a little time on cleaning that you can otherwise spend with your baby.
It also has an automatic lock that helps to keep the stroller folded. It’s fairly simple to unfold it and you can do it one handed, but it does require bending. You need to ensure that you first remember to unlock the stroller.
The Nuna MIXX2 stroller comes with an adapter that can hold PIPA Series infant car seats, in addition to car seats from Cybex and Maxi Cosi. It also comes with a rain cover and an arm bar.
In contrast, the Nuna MIXX 2019 comes with a different kind of car seat adapter - Ring adapter - that is only able to accommodate the Nuna car seats. This stroller also comes with the arm bar, but it does not include the rain shield - you will need to buy this on its own.
There are also some other accessories sold separately: cup holder, wheeled travel bag, child tray, bassinet, bassinet stand, additional adapters, and Nuna PIPA series infant car seats.
In order to summarize our review of the Nuna MIXX strollers, here’s a list of advantages and disadvantages of the stroller. We’ve just made one list to cover all of the versions of MIXX, as they are very similar and mostly share the pros and cons.
What do other parents think of Nuna MIXX2 and Nuna MIXX 2019?
As far as the Nuna MIXX2 is concerned, there are a number of reviews authored by other parents in a range of shops online, in addition to a number of video reviews. So what do parents complain about and praise most often?
To start with, the stroller is very easy to assemble and has a stylish look. It can turn and move easily. It’s not an issue to open and fold it in the slightest, and the storage basket is big enough to be able to accommodate all the things the parents will need.
The main problems parents cite are that the stroller doesn’t expand (it’s not possible to add another seat or a board, and the canopy doesn’t always remain in place when it’s open and the seat is reclined.
So what about the MIXX 2019?
Parents are really happy about the fact that this stroller has an all-season seat, which is able to prevent your child from overheating during the summer and stops them getting cold during the winter.
Another big selling point for most parents is the flat recline that is suitable for newborns babies, as it means you don’t need to buy the bassinet and so you can save money.
The biggest issue is that the Nuna MIXX 2019 is pretty heavy (actually, this applies to all of the MIXX strollers) and parents also don’t like the lack of a pocket on the rear of the seat.

Final Assessment - Nuna MIXX Strollers
Admittedly, the strollers from the Nuna MIXX collection are a big competitor for strollers such as the UPPAbaby vista. This is a very comfortable stroller for your baby, it’s easy to push and it travels very easily. It also looks very stylish!
In addition, the Nuna MIXX is very safe for your baby because there aren’t any chemical ingredients included according to the manufacturer. A lot of parents love this stroller and it’s not hard to see why!
While the Nuna MIXX isn’t the cheapest stroller out there, it’s certainly a great option. With that being said, have a look at other parents reviews before you buy it to ensure that it fits with your style - also look out for any available discounts!
